Earlier in her career Ms. Berliner was COO for South America at Apex Silver Mines,
overseeing a regional program of land acquisition and exploration. She also engaged
in policy and financial system reforms to support private sector development in Latin
America and the Caribbean and was one of the designers of Profund, a regional
investment fund for the financial sector in Latin America.
Ms. Berliner is a member of the Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment
and has assisted the Biotrade Facilitation Programme of UNCTAD to establish a
Biotrade Association in the Andean countries.
Ms. Berliner has an MPIA in Economic and Social Development from the University of
Pittsburgh and an Honors BA in Anthropology from the University of
Massachusetts. She is bilingual English-Spanish.

International, LLC, which develops integrated, sustainable biomass
energy projects in Latin America and has 25 years experience in
South and Central America.
Mr. Thurmond’s work been cited in the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times,
Biodiesel Magazine, Swiss Derivatives Review, the Futurist, BBC Radio, Fox News,
Reuters TV, and his business has received Forbes Magazine’s “Best of The Web” award
seven years in a row. Mr. Thurmond is also a columnist for Biofuels International
journal, Renewable Energy Access, Biofuels Digest, and speaks regularly at biofuels
and renewable energy conferences.
Mr. Thurmond serves as a volunteer for the National Algae Association as Chairman
of Research and Development; the American Biofuels Council as Chairman of
Development; and the Houston Technology Center’s energy screening committee as an
advisor on alternative energy technologies.. Mr Thurmond is a member of The
International Association for Energy Economics, and the Association of Professional
Futurists. Mr. Thurmond has participated in graduate courses towards a PhD,
Alternative Futures, at The University of Hawaii at Manoa; earned an M.S., Studies of
The Future, from The University of Houston; and a B.A, International Relations and
Economics from Rollins College.
Mr. St. James has worked in the international banking industry, has started up a
finance company for Daimler-Benz in Mexico, and was responsible for Latin American
financial services while with Dell Computer.
He obtained his BA from DePaul University and MA in International Relations from
The Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University. He holds Argentine and
United States passports, and is equally fluent in English and Spanish.
In late 2008 he was voted "Biofuels Personality of the Year" by readers of Biofuels Digest,
reflecting his efforts to promote awareness of the potential that clean energies have to
redirect Latin American economies, as well as his efforts to develop new leadership for
this industry.

William Thurmond is the President and founder of Emerging Markets
Online, a global energy and biofuels intelligence firm started eleven
years ago in 1997. Mr. Thurmond is also the author of Biodiesel 2020:
A Global Market Survey, and Algae 2020: Advanced Biofuels Markets and
Commercialization Outlook.
Sean O'Hanlon founded the American Biofuels Council in early
2007, and has served as CEO since its inception. He first became
interested in agricultural, environmental, health, economic and
energy issues while traveling internationally during the late
1990's and began investigating the potential benefits of
alternative fuels. His interest in biofuels increased greatly after
Carlos St. James is the Managing Director of Santiago & Sinclair
and has over 25 years experience working throughout Latin
America. He is also the Founder and President of the Argentine
Renewable Energies Chamber, a non-profit industry association
dedicated to the sustainable development of the biofuels industry
in the country.
Santiago & Sinclair has established the only advisory board focused on renewable
energies in Latin America. It is comprised of a network of professionals with firmly
established credentials in their fields, from Washington to Buenos Aires. Our board

Over the years Mr. O'Hanlon has developed contacts in every facet of the biofuels
industry from Seattle to São Paulo. He has authored more than 200 articles on
biofuels, co-created and developed the Certified Biofuels Educator (CBE) program,
served on the Center for Hemispheric Policy Energy Security task force, chaired round
table discussions, international conferences, regularly gives interviews to the media,
and has been called "One of the most influential voices in biofuels".
